HARIO was founded in Tokyo in 1921, and for two decades, the company specialized exclusively in the production of glass products for science labs. After WWII, HARIO began branching into home goods—their first kitchen item being a slick coffee syphon. This turned out to be a good move, as the company is now known the world over for their coffee and tea gear (and an eco-friendly production philosophy). Another impressive piece of the company’s history: They transitioned to a chimney-less factory in 1972, tweaking the production processes to melt glass with electricity rather than fuel oil, creating a safer factory for the environment and employees.
