Cuckmere Trug Company

Modern English Garden Trug

What separates the harvest trug from its predecessor, the original Sussex trug, which was invented in the 1820's, is its extra-deep body. The basket is hand-built from birch plywood, and though its intended purpose is to serve as a harvest tool, its functionality is virtually endless: use it as a picnic basket, for fresh produce storage, or as part of a rustic centerpiece.

    About the Brand

With a history that dates all the way back to the 1820s and a clientele that included Queen Victoria herself, Cuckmere Trug is the epitome of a British heritage brand. In an urban environment, the handcrafted trugs make for excellent picnic baskets, and thanks to the built-in feet, can double as rustic centerpieces, though their intended function is for farm-to-table gathering (flowers, vegetables, mushrooms, etc.) and gardening. Starting with the hand-bent handles and ending with the copper tacking, everything about these handcrafted pieces is a testament to the handiwork of skilled craftsmen.
